Common Questions

What is hypnobirthing?

This is a great question! Often people think hypnobirthing is a load of nonsense, or too “far out” However it’s not! Hypnobirthing is essentially a complete birth preparation program, much like other antenatal classes you may know. The difference? We go further by teaching practical techniques to help you stay calm, confident, and in control throughout labour.

Hypnobirthing can support a more positive birth experience for you.

When in hypnosis will I be out of control?

Absolutely not. You may have seen stage hypnosis on the TV, which is not the same as hypnotherapy.

Hypnotherapy and hypnobirthing is self-hypnosis, where you go into a state of deep relaxation, a bit like when we are day dreaming. You are in control throughout.

This relaxed state is important during labour because it allows your body, especially the muscles of the uterus, to work efficiently without tension or resistance. When you’re calm, labour can feel more comfortable and progress more smoothly.

When should I start?

You can start your hypnobirthing course at any time – it is never too late to start!

While starting earlier in pregnancy gives you more time to practice, it’s never too late to learn techniques that can help you feel calm and confident during birth.

Please see my intensive course designed for later stages of pregnancy—so you can still benefit even if your due date is near.

Are Partners involved?

Yes, partners are encouraged to join sessions, so you can learn and practice techniques together.

Can I still use hypnobirthing if I am having a caesarean birth?

Absolutely! Hypnobirthing techniques can be used for all types of births, including caesarean.

I have a dedicated caesarean birth course for anyone planning this type of birth, so you can feel calm and prepared every step of the way.

In all my courses, we cover different birth scenarios. If your plans change and you need a caesarean, I’ll happily provide all my caesarean resources.

Does a hypnobirthing course ensure I will not feel any pain?

While some parents have experienced pain-free births using hypnobirthing techniques, it’s important to remember that pain is subjective and varies for everyone.

Hypnobirthing can’t promise a completely pain-free experience, but it can absolutely help reduce discomfort and make labour feel more manageable.

By learning how to deeply relax, you allow your body to work more efficiently, which often leads to less tension and less pain.

Think of hypnobirthing as a powerful tool to help you stay calm and in control—giving you the best chance for a positive, comfortable birth.
